March 30, 2009 PRESS RELEASE LOCAL HOTEL RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION The Howard Johnson Inn – Timmins now known as Timmins Inn & Suites, was recently awarded a recognition plaque by Howard Johnson Canada as one of four Canadian properties to have achieved an increase of 25% or more in average revenue per available rooms (Revpar) in 2008. Don Padley, the local General Manager of the Timmins Inna & Suites, was extremely pleased with the recognition. “Achieving a 26% increase in Revpar is a milestone to be proud of. Our employees and management team continue to work very hard as we all strive to improve the Timmins property in ways that are appropriate and conducive to the needs of our local market”, said Padley. Local Sales and Marketing Manager, Mike Kentish concluded that the Revpar increase is a signal, indicative of a property experiencing positive growth. “We have joined a pretty elite group of hotels operating under the Howard Johnson Canada flag. This is a fantastic achievement”, he added. Locally, the 105 room Timmins Inn & Suites also faired very well. During the 2008 fiscal year, the hotel experienced a 12.5% increase in their occupancy rate and a 12% increase in the local market share. In mid March, the hotel management took a decision to close their dining room operation in order to concentrate on in-house catering for their growing meeting and conference business. Over 2800 sq. ft. of meeting space was added to the 5300 sq. ft. of existing space. GM, Padley is confident that positive decisions such as this one will reap further awards in 2009 and beyond. |
